In as new condition, the card is encased in heavy plastic with a silver Topps sticker on the right side, reading “uncirculated.” The original packaging unopened. Stamped 1/1 in gold on back, along with serialized authentication sticker.
The 2005 Topps Pristine Legends Set included only ten rare 1/1 Signature Marks of various celebrities in the entertainment and sports fields, distributed solely to hobby outlets. Offered at this time from the group is the signature cut of the "Manassa Mauler,” heavyweight champion Jack Dempsey (SM-JD). Dempsey started his career in 1919, when he beat Jess Willard and became world heavyweight champion, a title he held until his fight with Gene Tunney in 1926. Dempsey is listed as number 10 on The Ring's list of all-time heavyweights, number 7 among its Top 100 Greatest Punchers, and was voted by the Associated Press in 1950 as the greatest fighter of the past 50 years. His aggressive style and exceptional punching power have made him one of the most well-liked boxers in history.
